WELCOME TO UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWEST!

Welcome to the University of Northwest of New York. This site contains critical information for first-year, transfer, and international students and explains important steps and requirements to help you make a smooth transition to UNW.

As a new student, you must fulfill several requirements from various offices and divisions before you can begin classes in the Spring. This website guides you through the various actions you must take to complete requirements by the stated deadlines so that you can avoid delays and penalties.

ORIENTATION

UNW New Student Orientation is a great opportunity to experience life as a UNW Student. At New Student Orientation, you will register for courses, and get the tools you need to start the first day of class. You will also learn about academic and student involvement opportunities, become familiar with our campus traditions, learn how to access UNW services and resources and meet the UNW Community. UNW New Student Orientation has sessions for first year, transfer students and International students. The information given at sessions is based on the student’s chosen area of study. International students will receive their Orientation appointments by email.
Why is orientation important? Transition is difficult for anyone, which is why we have developed a truly immersive and comprehensive program to help you transition to our community. We mean community in every sense of the word, coordinating and meeting the challenges of the college environment should not be met alone, and student affairs as well as other members of the college are here to make that transition as seamless as possible. We have programs that are tailored for all our new students, for example our GPS program for students that are not already in specialized program. Our goal is to make sure you get the support and acclimate to your new community, and that your journey is fruitful and successful.

PREPARE FOR ORIENTATION

We’re here to help you succeed. Part of being a successful college student is learning how to navigate the university rules, regulations and deadlines.
